Pottery Expressions - Raku Pottery

The sconces make very unique wall decorations in your home. You can display dried flowers or put a plastic bag in it and display cut flowers or even a plant.. Another idea is to put them outside on your front porch. In the summertime, you can put them outside on fence posts with potted plants in them. I recommend they come in for the winter because of freezing which can cause cracking. I have had pieces outside for years and have not had any discoloration.

Sconces are slabs of clay rolled around newspaper forms. Once dry they are bisqued fired and then rakued. The wonderful thing about sconces is that the shape seems to be very conducive to rakuing. It seems to bring out a large variety of colors. I believe this is because of the rolled shape that holds heat inside itself. It also has folds and crevasses that hold the heat for varying amounts of time in the reduction cans.

The sconces displayed are examples of the coloring and sizes. Each piece is unique and will be slightly different from the picture.
